What Really Happened to Marimar Martinez?

“Marimar Martinez deliberately crashed into an ICE vehicle and they shot her. FAFO!!!”

FAFO (f*ck around, find out) seems to almost be almost as ubiquitous as MAGAis these days. I do think it’s hilarious when it’s on a meme of the Gritty, the Philly Eagle’s mascot, but it boils my blood to see it used in reference to Alex Pretti, Renee Good, and Marimar Martinez, the victims of ICE brutality in Minneapolis and Chicago.

On Tuesday (2/11/2026), the bodycam footage was released after an order last week from U.S. District Judge Georgia Alexakis removed the protective order withholding them. DHS was worried that the shooter, Charles Exum’s, reputation would be damaged if they came out. Boy, were they right, and boy does this absolute fuckstick deserve it!

In this article, I want to compare what DHS and other agencies in power have said about the shooting vs. what the bodycam shows.

The Lies Statements from DHS

The underlying facts are: Marimar Martinez, a Montessori Preschool Teacher, was shot 5 times by BCP agents in October 2025 after allegedly striking their vehicle with hers.

After the shooting took place in October, the DHS immediately released this statement:

“This morning, Border Patrol law enforcement officers were ambushed by domestic terrorists that rammed federal agents with their vehicles. The woman, Marimar Martinez, driving one of the vehicles, was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and has a history of doxxing federal agents. She took defensive fire from CBP agents and has been discharged from the hospital and is currently in the custody of the FBI. The driver of another vehicle, Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, involved in the ramming has been apprehended by law enforcement.”

“Domestic Terrorist” is what Pretti and Good will later be called, as well.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin added, “These attacks on our brave law enforcement officers must END. Secretary Noem has taken action to deploy additional resources to restore law and order. We will not allow domestic terrorists to attack our law enforcement. If you lay a hand on law enforcement, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Kash Patel, the Director of the FBI had this to say:

“They have been charged for assaulting federal officers with a deadly or dangerous weapon. Attack our law enforcement, and this FBI will find you and bring you to justice.”

Another important fact: the statement was released along with a video of a vehicle being rammed into. This footage was not from this incident and was released to add legitimacy to their claims. That footage can be seen starting at 1:33 in this video and has largely been believed to have been the Marimar Martinez incident.

I didn’t see any official statement from Trump, but if you happen to find one, dear reader, please share it! Overall, the messaging is clear: Marimar Martinez was the aggressor, ramming the ICE agents with her car. She was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and was clearly a Domestic Terrorist. ICE acted defensively to protect their own lives by firing 5 shots at Martinez.

The Truth Shown on the Bodycam

Unfortunately, I was unable to find just the video without the commentary. I think it’s best to review this footage without forming any opinion based on what the anchors are framing it with. If you want to do that, skip to 0:32 seconds into the video.

Here’s everything the ICE Agents said in the video:

• “It’s time to get aggressive and get the fuck out ‘cuz they’re trying to box us in”
  “We’re going to make contact and we’re boxed in. We are boxed in.”
• “Be advised, we’ve been struck! We’ve been struck!”

Meanwhile, you can see in the bodycam footage that the ICE Agent, Exum, turned his wheel sharply to the left and struck Martinez’s vehicle. He then hops out of the vehicle, gun in hand, and IMMEDIATELY fires 5 shots.

Secondary CCTV footage shows the front of the ICE vehicle, suspiciously lacking any vehicle in front of it “boxing them in”. Check out this video, starting at 0:33.

Marimar’s official statement matches almost exactly with what can be seen in the video. She confirms she had a weapon in her vehicle, but it was properly stowed in her purse, as carry weapons often are.

The video very clearly shows the Marimar was not the aggressor. ICE made the choice to engage HER, and then punished her by shooting her 5 times. Side note, why does every ICE shooting involve 3+ shots? To be a “good shoot” in Law Enforcement or Self Defense Shooting terms, it’s only illegal to shoot as many times as it takes to neutralize the threat. Alex Pretti was pretty neutralized before the continued putting bullets into him.

Bonus: The Text Messages and Emails

Text messages and emails were also released as a part of the protective order lift. These show the agent being congratulated by his fellow agents, encouraged by Greg Bovino, and texting things like “She had 5 bullets and 7 holes, put that in your book boys”. Not only is he an attempted murdered, turns out he is very unsurprisingly a sexist piece of shit!

The good news is, he was placed on Administrative Leave. Unlike in the case of Good and Pretti, Martinez survived to sue the ever-loving shit out of DHS. May she prevail!
